Evaluation of IgG Concentration in Foals with Failure of Passive Transfer after Administration of Intravenous Serum or Plasma
نویسنده
چکیده
Plasma treatment in foals resulted in greater increases in post-transfusion serum IgG concentrations compared with serum treatment. The results of this study suggest that similar foal serum IgG concentrations can be achieved 3 days post-transfusion by administering 1 unit of plasma product or 2–3 units of serum product. Correlation of serum IgG concentration in foals and refractometry index of the dam's pre- and post-parturient colostrums: an assessment for failure of passive transfer in foals.
The object of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of measuring the differences in the values of the serum total protein (DVSTP) concentration of foals and the refractometry index (DVRI) of the milk of dams before and after nursing of the colostrum for assessing failure of passive transfer (FPT) in foals. Serum samples from 31 foals were collected before the first nursing and other 1 to 6 ...
متن کاملA Randomized Clinical Trial Evaluating Metabolism of Colostral and Plasma Derived Immunoglobulin G in Jersey Bull Calves
BACKGROUND Intravenous plasma administration has been recommended in healthy or sick calves with failure of passive immunity. HYPOTHESIS IV administered plasma-derived immunoglobulin G (IgG) undergoes increased catabolism as reflected by a rapid decrease in serum IgG concentration with an increase in fecal IgG concentrations within 48 h. ANIMALS Thirty newborn Jersey calves. Fifteen were fe...
متن کاملPlasma pharmacokinetics of pioglitazone following oral or intravenous administration in Holstein cows
Pioglitazone belongs to the thiazolidinedione (TZD) class of antidiabetic agents, with proven efficacy in increasing insulin sensitivity and in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in humans. Pioglitazone has been proposed as a potential feed additive to reduce insulin resistance and consequently some of the metabolic disorders in transition cows. This study was aimed at determining the ph...

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of supplemented selenium (Se) on plasma cortisol, red blood cell glutathione peroxidase activity (RBC GSH-PX-1), concentration of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and body weight in pneumonic suckling calves. Ten Holstein suckling male calves were randomly allocated to two groups and fed either unsupplemented milk (control) or with milk supplemente...

The pharmacokinetic parameters of ceftazidime, a third generation cephalosporin, were investigated in six buffalo calves after single intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) administration at a dose rate of 10 mg/kg body weight. Ceftazidime concentrations in plasma and urine were determined by microbiological assay. Ceftazidime disposition was best fitted by a two-compartmental and a one-compar...
